The SPAFOA held its final meeting for 2010 at Fermilab on December 15, 2010. The presentations documented the significant progress made by the lab on their major research programs and the scrf accelerator technology required to bring them to fruition. A tour of the lab's research areas followed the talks showed major accomplishments in the research, development and testing of scrf cryomodules, much of which was funded by the Federal stimulus funding. The meeting was attended by 20 forum members with others joining the meeting via a WEBEX link.

Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) Meeting, Sept 15, 2010
|
The forum held its second membership meeting at the FRIB at Michigan
State University on Sept 15. FRIB will be a new National User Facility
for nuclear science, funded by the Department of Energy Office of
Science (DOE-SC), Office of Nuclear Physics and operated by Michigan
State University. The new facility will provide intense beams of
rare isotopes (that is, short-lived nuclei not normally found on Earth).
FRIB will provide scientists critical information about the properties
of these rare isotopes in order to better understand the origin of the
elements and the evolution of the cosmos. The meeting was hosted by the FRIB program manager, Dr. Thomas Glasmacher. The agenda contains four presentations by key FRIB managers plus an introduction by Ken Olsen of the SPAFOA. The individual presentations can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate talk on the agenda. The meeting was attended by 15 people representing 10 member companies plus two there companies that joined the meeting remotely via WEBEX. After lunch the group was given a tour of the current superconducting cyclotron facility and the planned expansion for FRIB. |

The SPAFOA held its first membership meeting for 2010 at the SNS at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on March 18. The meeting was hosted by Stuart Henderson, Director, and held on site. Briefings shown in the attached agenda were provided by Stuart, John Galambos, John Mammosser, and Barbara Thibadeau. Each briefing is linked to this agenda and can be viewed and downloaded. Members participated by attending the meeting on site or via WEBEX link. Those attending on site were provided with a detailed tour of the SNS facility, the SNS was in operational mode during this tour. on behalf of the forum, I wish to thank Stuart and his staff for hosting this informative session, Please click the links for the Agenda and the briefings from Stuart Henderson, John Galambos, John Mammosser and Barbara Thibadeau. |
